Entre el 23 de mayo de 2007 y el verano de 2009, Yalçın Yalman, guardia de seguridad nocturno en un complejo de viviendas en Kumburgaz (extremo occidental de Estambul, costa del Mar de Mármara), filmó sistemáticamente objetos discoidales sobre el mar durante múltiples noches y madrugadas. Sus filmaciones totalizan más de 35 horas de material en cassettes Hi-8 y Mini-DV.
Los objetos son visibles en alta resolución para video doméstico de la época: forma discoidal con cúpula central, luces estructurales periféricas, y en algunas tomas, lo que aparentan ser entidades visibles dentro de la cúpula. La consistencia morfológica entre tomas de noches diferentes es notable.
Investigación TÜBİTAK (Türkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Araştırma Kurumu — Consejo de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica de Turquía) realizó análisis forense del material en 2008-2009. El reporte concluyó que las filmaciones no muestran evidencia de manipulación digital, no son maquetas y no son fenómenos atmosféricos. La explicación 'objeto real desconocido' fue la conclusión administrativa. El caso es uno de los pocos donde una agencia científica nacional ha emitido conclusión formal validando no-hoax sobre material filmado por testigo civil.
Between May 23, 2007 and the summer of 2009, Yalçın Yalman, a night security guard at a residential complex in Kumburgaz (the western edge of Istanbul, on the Sea of Marmara coast), systematically filmed disc-shaped objects over the sea during multiple nights and early mornings. His footage totals more than 35 hours of material on Hi-8 and Mini-DV cassettes.
The objects are visible at high resolution for the consumer video standards of the time: disc shape with a central dome, peripheral structural lights, and in some shots what appear to be entities visible inside the dome. Morphological consistency across shots from different nights is striking.
The TÜBİTAK investigation (Türkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Araştırma Kurumu — Turkey's Scientific and Technological Research Council) carried out a forensic analysis of the material in 2008-2009. The report concluded that the footage shows no evidence of digital manipulation, is not staged with models, and does not depict atmospheric phenomena. The 'real unknown object' explanation was the administrative conclusion. It is one of the few cases in which a national scientific agency has issued a formal finding validating non-hoax status for footage filmed by a civilian witness.
