Tras dos noches de avistamientos en el aeropuerto de Chacalluta (Arica) en marzo de 1997, la Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil (DGAC) creó ese año el CEFAA (Comité de Estudios de Fenómenos Aéreos Anómalos), dependiente de la aviación civil chilena. Reúne un panel multidisciplinario (astrónomos, físicos, psicólogos, expertos aeronáuticos) para analizar reportes de FANI con método científico. Bajo la dirección del general (R) Ricardo Bermúdez (2009–2016) investigó y reconoció públicamente casos como El Bosque (2010) y el helicóptero naval (2014). Completa el cuarteto de comisiones oficiales latinoamericanas junto a CRIDOVNI, OIFAA y CIAE.After two nights of sightings at Chacalluta airport (Arica) in March 1997, the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) created CEFAA (Committee for the Study of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena) that year, under Chilean civil aviation. It brings together a multidisciplinary panel (astronomers, physicists, psychologists, aeronautical experts) to analyze FANI reports with a scientific method. Under the direction of General (ret.) Ricardo Bermúdez (2009–2016) it investigated and publicly acknowledged cases such as El Bosque (2010) and the naval helicopter (2014). It completes the quartet of Latin American official commissions alongside CRIDOVNI, OIFAA and CIAE.

Durante una parada aérea de la FACh en El Bosque (Santiago), nadie notó nada en vivo; al revisar después las grabaciones, un ingeniero detectó un objeto cruzando a alta velocidad entre las escuadrillas. CEFAA recopiló siete videos independientes, encargó un análisis fotogramétrico que estimó velocidades muy altas y clasificó el caso como anómalo. Análisis posteriores propusieron un insecto cerca del lente.During a FACh air parade at El Bosque (Santiago), nobody noticed anything live; on later reviewing the footage, an engineer spotted an object crossing at high speed between the squadrons. CEFAA gathered seven independent videos, commissioned a photogrammetric analysis that estimated very high speeds, and classified the case as anomalous. Later analyses proposed an insect near the lens.

En abril de 2013, técnicos de la minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi —a más de 4.300 m en el altiplano de la Atacama— fotografiaron un objeto con forma de disco que permaneció cerca durante cerca de una hora antes de alejarse. La CEFAA, el comité oficial de la DGAC chilena bajo el general (r) Ricardo Bermúdez, investigó las imágenes con análisis óptico y térmico y un analista las calificó como un objeto o fenómeno de gran interés, no identificado. El propio Bermúdez pidió cautela: era la conclusión de un solo analista y los testigos no cooperaron.In April 2013, technicians at the Doña Inés de Collahuasi mine —over 4,300 m in the Atacama altiplano— photographed a disc-shaped object that lingered nearby for about an hour before moving off.
