En la madrugada del 29 de noviembre de 1954, Gustavo González y José Ponce circulaban por la zona de Petare, al este de Caracas, en tareas de distribución y transporte de mercancías —una actividad habitual de madrugada para abastecer mercados—. Según el relato recogido entonces, la calle, completamente a oscuras, se iluminó de pronto como si fuera de día: la fuente era un objeto esférico luminoso que flotaba a baja altura, bloqueando el paso.

González describió haber visto, junto al objeto, una o varias figuras de aproximadamente un metro de altura, cubiertas de pelo oscuro, con ojos brillantes, extremidades robustas y manos con garras o uñas largas. En un impulso —dijo— intentó sujetar a una de ellas para capturarla, y la criatura, con una fuerza desproporcionada para su tamaño, lo lanzó varios metros. González sacó un cuchillo para defenderse; Ponce, por su parte, afirmó haber visto a otras figuras llevando algo hacia la esfera, que luego ascendió y desapareció.

Lo que distingue al caso de un simple relato es su rastro documental para la época: González fue atendido por las lesiones, y los agentes fiscales Manuel Moreno y E. Domínguez dejaron constancia de la hora en que los hombres llegaron y de que no presentaban signos de intoxicación ni de perturbación mental. El episodio se inscribe en la gran oleada mundial de encuentros cercanos de 1954 y quedó como uno de los expedientes de humanoides más citados de Latinoamérica. Conviene leerlo como lo que es: un encuentro de tipo CE-III, dramático y de dos testigos, valioso históricamente y con respaldo policial, pero sin traza física más allá de las lesiones reportadas.

In the early morning of 29 November 1954, Gustavo González and José Ponce were traveling through the Petare area, east of Caracas, on merchandise distribution and transport tasks —a common pre-dawn activity to supply markets—. According to the account collected at the time, the completely dark street suddenly lit up as if it were daytime: the source was a luminous spherical object hovering at low height, blocking the way.

González described seeing, next to the object, one or several figures about one meter tall, covered in dark hair, with bright eyes, robust limbs and hands with claws or long nails. On impulse —he said— he tried to grab one of them to capture it, and the creature, with strength disproportionate to its size, threw him several meters. González drew a knife to defend himself; Ponce, for his part, claimed to have seen other figures carrying something toward the sphere, which then rose and vanished.

What sets the case apart from a mere tale is its documentary trace for the period: González was treated for his injuries, and prosecutors' agents Manuel Moreno and E. Domínguez recorded the time the men arrived and that they showed no signs of intoxication or mental disturbance. The episode is part of the great worldwide wave of close encounters of 1954 and remained one of the most cited humanoid files in Latin America. It should be read for what it is: a CE-III type encounter, dramatic and with two witnesses, historically valuable and with police backing, but with no physical trace beyond the reported injuries.

Es el caso fundacional de la casuística venezolana y uno de los encuentros con humanoides más citados de toda Latinoamérica, dentro de la oleada mundial de 1954 que instaló en el imaginario la figura del 'ocupante' de los OVNIs. Y tiene algo poco común para un relato tan extraordinario: una constancia oficial —policial y fiscal— de que los testigos estaban sobrios y lúcidos. Pero también marca con claridad la frontera del corpus: un CE-III de dos testigos, sin sensor ni traza material verificable, no puede pesar como un caso militar con radar. Entra como Tier B —folclor documentado— y con esa cautela explícita: importante como hito cultural, no como evidencia dura.Petare matters for its historical place and for what it delimits. It is the foundational case of Venezuelan casework and one of the most cited humanoid encounters in all of Latin America, within the 1954 worldwide wave that installed the figure of the UFO 'occupant' in the popular imagination. And it has something uncommon for such an extraordinary account: an official record —police and prosecutor— that the witnesses were sober and lucid. But it also clearly marks the corpus's frontier: a two-witness CE-III, with no sensor or verifiable material trace, cannot weigh like a military case with radar. It enters as Tier B —documented folklore— and with that explicit caution: important as a cultural milestone, not as hard evidence.
