Biography

He was about seven and skating with a friend when both said they saw two orange objects, one of which landed in a vineyard behind the housing complex. They described a short occupant with a dark, wrinkled face that approached and touched one of them on the shoulder, leaving him frozen with fear. It is the corpus's first Asian CE3 and contributes a morphology missing from an Asian coverage dominated by lights and institutional cases. As with all child testimony, its strength and its weakness are the same: there is no cultural sophistication behind it, and no precision either.

On February 23, 1975, two schoolboys from Kōfu (Yamanashi prefecture, Japan), Masato Kawano and Katsuhiro Yamahata, said they saw two orange objects descend, one of which landed in a vineyard; from it a short occupant allegedly emerged and touched one boy on the shoulder, leaving him momentarily paralyzed. The case is unusual among ground sightings for its corroboration: besides the boys, it was reported by their mothers, a classmate, a janitor and a woman driving by, and two concrete posts were left toppled at the site, which school staff concluded the children could not have knocked over; a teacher measured anomalous radioactivity in the soil with a Geiger counter. The official explanation —the Civil Aviation Bureau attributed it to the lights of a YS-11 aircraft— covers the aerial lights but not the landing or the occupant.
