Biography
The first director of the Pentagon office created to resolve cases of anomalous phenomena (AARO). He held a skeptical stance: most reports would have mundane explanations —drones, balloons, sensor artifacts—. He resigned in late 2023, officially for personal reasons, though there is speculation about friction with the whistleblowers' agenda; his successor adopted a markedly more open tone.

Volume 1 of the 'Report on the Historical Record of U.S. Government Involvement with UAP', published by AARO on 8 March 2024 with the original signature of its then director Sean Kirkpatrick. It covers 1945 to October 2023 from classified and unclassified files, interviews and a review of the alleged programs and code names. It concludes it found no evidence that any investigation confirmed extraterrestrial technology, nor of recovery or reverse-engineering programs, and attributes those beliefs to misidentification, bureaucratic confusion and 'circular reporting'; it rebuts claims of the kind made by Grusch. Volume 2 remained unpublished as of September 2026.
