Esko Viljo
Farmer and competitive skier, southern Finland · second witness in the Imjärvi encounter (1970)
Biography
He was with Aarno Heinonen the afternoon both said they saw an object descend over a snowy clearing and, inside a beam of light, a small waxy-faced figure. His evidentiary value is precisely that of being the second: without him, Imjärvi would be one more single testimony; with him, it is one of the few European encounters with two independent witnesses whose accounts matched and who built nothing on the episode. Viljo reported less intense physical effects than his companion, an asymmetry the file records rather than smoothing over.
