Biography

Analyst who in the 1950s worked at the Battelle Memorial Institute on Project Blue Book's Special Report No. 14, the largest statistical study of sightings ever conducted by the U.S. Air Force. A collaborator of J. Allen Hynek and the Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS). She authored the canonical investigation of the Army helicopter encounter over Mansfield, Ohio (Coyne case, 1973): a monograph that reconstructed the crew's and ground witnesses' testimony and ruled out conventional explanations.

On 18 October 1973, an Army Reserve Bell UH-1H over Mansfield, Ohio, nearly collided with a gray cigar-shaped object; though the crew held the controls in a descent, the helicopter climbed with no pilot input. The Army's official after-action report remains on file, unreclassified.
