Biography
Aerospace engineer who worked at McDonnell Douglas on NASA's crewed programs (Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab and the Shuttle). Co-founder and for decades international director of MUFON, where he systematized field-investigation methodology. He led the investigation of the Cash-Landrum incident (1980), documenting with medical records the radiation effects reported by the witnesses, and published the reference monograph on the case.

MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) is the civilian reporting and investigation network founded on 31 May 1969 in Quincy, Illinois, as the Midwest UFO Network, in response to the closure of Project Blue Book; its founders include Walter H. Andrus Jr., John F. Schuessler and Allen R. Utke. It has some 4,000 members and more than 700 field investigators trained with its own manual, and since 2006 it has maintained the Case Management System, which passed 100,000 reports by March 2024. Its volume is not rigor: there is documented criticism of its entanglement with Bigelow Aerospace and of a focus scientists call pseudoscientific, with data lacking independent verification.
