In 2001, two trainee pilots of the Turkish Air Force were on a routine training flight in a U.S.-made T-37 off the coastal town of Çandarlı, in the Aegean. According to their report, a bright object approached the aircraft at high speed and maneuvered around it for about half an hour. They described it as having an unusual shape, like a cross between a cone and a disc.
The pilots reported the sighting to their controller and to the regional war alert center of the Turkish army, integrating it into the military institutional chain. The case was picked up by the international press (ABC News).
The framing is honest: it is testimony from military pilots —trained in aircraft identification— with long duration and a formal report up the chain of command, but without radar confirmation or sensor record in the available material.
