Biography

Commercial airline captain (MD-80/88 commander at Aeroméxico, 1981–2007), former air traffic controller (1968–1979) and meteorologist, an independent researcher of anomalous aerospace phenomena since 1963 and director of CENEAAM (Center for Aerospace Studies in Mexico) since 1998. From his site alcione.org he practices a skeptical, technical analysis of UFO cases, seeking conventional explanations before exotic ones. He authored the reference analysis of the Mexican Air Force FLIR case (2004): he showed that the objects captured in infrared were the gas-flaring torches of the Cantarell oil-field platforms, not craft —a conclusion endorsed by researchers such as Ballester-Olmos, Borraz, Janosch, Mori and Ruiz Noguez.

On 5 March 2004, a Mexican Air Force aircraft on an anti-narcotics patrol over Campeche detected eleven spherical objects on radar and FLIR, visible only in infrared; Defense Secretary Clemente Vega García personally authorized release of the video. It is a calibration case: official disclosure does not imply anomaly, and a plausible conventional explanation (reflections from oil platforms) remains.
