Rodrigo Fuenzalida

Chilean sociologist and ufologist · founder and director of AION · a reference for Latin American ufology

Biography

Chilean sociologist and ufologist (b. 1963), founder and director of AION (Agrupación de Investigaciones Ovniológicas de Chile). Since the 1990s he has been one of the central figures of Chilean ufology, with a deliberately rigorous, non-sensationalist approach: AION brings together a multidisciplinary team —including psychologists and psychiatrists— to assess witnesses' credibility. Also trained in hypnotherapy and an international speaker, he has helped position Chile as a reference for Latin American ufology, publicizing and analyzing the country's classic cases such as that of Corporal Armando Valdés (1977).

Valdés case· 1977

On 25 April 1977, a six-soldier Chilean Army patrol on the Atacama altiplano saw two luminous objects approach; Corporal Armando Valdés stepped away from the group and vanished for several minutes. When he returned, his watch and the growth of his beard appeared advanced by five days within a fifteen-minute span — an anomaly attested by six military observers, with no established cause.
