Biography
He was 42 and fishing with a 19-year-old companion when both said they were immobilized and taken aboard an object by three robotic-looking figures. What distinguishes the case is not material proof —there is none— but an involuntary experiment: Sheriff Fred Diamond, convinced they were lying, left them alone in a room with a hidden tape recorder, expecting to catch them coordinating the hoax. The tape recorded the opposite, two distressed men talking about their fear and praying. Hickson passed a polygraph, was questioned under hypnosis in a session that had to be halted because of his distress, and sustained the same version, without varying it, until his death.
