José María Trejo

Conscript soldier at Talavera la Real Air Base, Badajoz · witness in the Spanish case with an institutional chain of custody (1976)

Biography

He was on night guard in the fuel area of an air base when the sequence began with radio interference, a high-pitched whistle, a partial perimeter blackout and an intensely agitated military dog. In that context he described a figure to his left nearly three meters tall, apparently formed of points of light. What is valuable about the case is not the figure but its wrapping: a close-encounter account enclosed in a real institutional chain of custody, with the episode occurring inside a military installation and being recorded by it. That combination is rare.

In the early hours of 12 November 1976, two conscript sentries in the fuel area of Talavera la Real Air Base (Badajoz, Spain) reported interference, a high-pitched whistle, a partial blackout and an agitated military dog. One of them, José María Trejo, described a humanoid figure some three meters tall formed by points of green light, with long arms and no hands or feet, before losing consciousness; his companions opened fire on the apparition, which vanished. The Spanish Air Force opened a file that the Ministry of Defense declassified in the 1990s. The documentation confirms a real alarm occurred, but does not conclusively support the presence of an object or a being; the strongest reading points to perceptual disturbance and contagious hysteria during a night watch.
