At some point in 2020, the U.S. Air Force formally submitted a report of an unidentified anomalous phenomenon to AARO, catalogued as DOW-UAP-PR45, consisting of 58 seconds of footage captured by an infrared sensor aboard a military platform over the Middle East, within Central Command's (CENTCOM) area of responsibility. The reporter provided no oral or written description of the observation at all — unlike other files in the corpus, there is no debrief or testimony accompanying this video.

The official timestamped visual description documents a simple sequence: between seconds 0 and 3, the sensor tracks an area of contrast after acquiring a reticle lock; between seconds 4 and 30, the area of contrast 'gradually increases in distinctiveness' against the background; at second 31, the sensor narrows its field of view to zoom in on the area of contrast; between seconds 32 and 56, the area of contrast 'increases in apparent size and distinctiveness'; between seconds 57 and 58, the area of contrast leaves the center of the frame and passes out of the sensor's field of view, exiting the scene in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Unlike most records reviewed this session, this one carries an additional paragraph under the heading 'AARO Comment': 'the area of contrast's apparent increase in size is likely to be at least partially attributable to the U.S. platform closing the distance between itself and the source of the detection.' In other words, AARO offers an alternative, mundane explanation for the clip's most striking behavior —an object that appears to progressively grow in size over nearly a minute— before any reader could interpret it as an object approaching or expanding on its own.

Why this case moved the needle

This file is the analytical mirror of the Gulf of America case (): there, AARO explained why an object flickers (a sensor artifact); here it explains why an object appears to grow (an observation-geometry artifact). Both are examples of the same uncommon genre in this corpus —a technical comment that actively intervenes to head off a misreading— and both point to the same underlying methodological problem: without that comment, a reasonable reader could interpret 'the object grows for nearly a minute' as evidence of an object deliberately approaching, or even physically expanding, when the simpler explanation is that the camera, not the object, is the one moving.

The effect AARO describes —platform-to-target distance closing, producing an apparent on-screen size increase— is elementary projection geometry: any fixed or slow-moving object will appear to grow if the observer (here, an airborne platform) moves toward it. It is exactly the kind of artifact that, without a trained observer to recognize it, feeds narratives of 'intelligent approach' or 'materialization' in footage that in reality only documents the recording platform's own flight path.

What's notable is what this file does NOT have: no reporter testimony, no debrief, no coordinates or platform identification.
