El relato —recogido por medios y por la ufología local— describe una población atemorizada, que asociaba las luces con una agresión nocturna recurrente, en un patrón que a menor escala recuerda al caso brasileño de Colares.

La OIFAA (Oficina de Investigación de Fenómenos Aéreos Anómalos) de la Fuerza Aérea del Perú, dirigida por el comandante Julio César Chamorro, recibió el reporte y, según las fuentes, ya tenía personal en la región vinculado al seguimiento del fenómeno. El componente civil de la investigación lo aportaron tres estudiantes de la carrera de Ciencias de la Comunicación de la Universidad de Lima —Teresa Lucía Chamorro (hija del comandante), Martha Wong y Luciana Macías—, que tomaron el caso como trabajo del curso 'Fundamentos de la Información', con el apoyo de Chamorro y de la oficina.
El material reunido se presentó públicamente en un congreso de ufología en Lima, donde el caso fue divulgado como 'el OVNI de Pucallpa'. A diferencia de Chulucanas (2001) o La Joya (1980), la documentación disponible es comparativamente débil: testimonios de pobladores, cobertura de prensa local y trabajo de divulgación, sin un expediente técnico abierto y verificable equivalente. In April 2008, in the San Juan hamlet on the outskirts of Pucallpa (Ucayali department, in the Peruvian Amazon), residents reported that for several nights 'lights' flew over the area and projected beams of light directed at people. The account —gathered by media and local ufology— describes a frightened population that associated the lights with a recurring nightly aggression, in a pattern that, on a smaller scale, recalls the Brazilian Colares case.
The Peruvian Air Force's OIFAA (Office for the Investigation of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena), led by Commander Julio César Chamorro, received the report and, according to the sources, already had personnel in the region tracking the phenomenon. The civilian component of the investigation was provided by three Communication Sciences students from the University of Lima —Teresa Lucía Chamorro (the commander's daughter), Martha Wong and Luciana Macías—, who took the case as a project for the 'Fundamentals of Information' course, with the support of Chamorro and the office.
The material gathered was presented publicly at a ufology congress in Lima, where the case was publicized as 'the Pucallpa UFO'. Unlike Chulucanas (2001) or La Joya (1980), the available documentation is comparatively weak: residents' testimonies, local press coverage and outreach work, without an equivalent open, verifiable technical file. Es, junto a Chulucanas, la otra cara del experimento peruano de tener una ventanilla militar para lo anómalo. Pero también marca el piso de calidad del corpus: aquí la pesquisa fue un trabajo universitario apoyado por la oficina, con documentación testimonial y secundaria, sin expediente técnico verificable. Por eso entra como Tier B y con cautela explícita: registro institucional de un fenómeno folk-amazónico, no un caso con sensores. La comparación con Colares es de patrón, no de solidez probatoria.Pucallpa matters for the institutional angle and the contrast, not for the strength of its evidence. It shows the FAP's official office (OIFAA) receiving and channeling an Amazonian scare about 'attacking lights', the kind of report that in another country would have left no state record at all. It is, alongside Chulucanas, the other face of the Peruvian experiment of having a military window for the anomalous. But it also marks the corpus's quality floor: here the inquiry was a university project supported by the office, with testimonial and secondary documentation and no verifiable technical file. That is why it enters as Tier B and with explicit caution: an institutional record of a folk-Amazonian phenomenon, not a sensor case. The comparison with Colares is one of pattern, not of evidentiary strength.
