Council Bluffs (molten metal)· 1977
On the night of 17 December 1977 several witnesses in Council Bluffs (Iowa) saw a red luminous mass fall; about 13 kg of still-burning molten metal was left in a frozen field. It is one of the physical-trace cases that Garry Nolan and Jacques Vallée re-analyzed decades later with isotopic techniques: the isotope ratios came out normal (terrestrial), but the metal mixture was unusual and only partially melted, consistent with an incomplete industrial process.
American Cosmic (impact site, New Mexico)· 2017
In 2017, religious-studies professor Diana Walsh Pasulka and Stanford immunologist Garry Nolan were taken —blindfolded— to an undisclosed New Mexico site presented as the location of a 1940s impact (explicitly not Roswell). They dug up lightweight, unusual-looking metallic material, of which Nolan took samples. Pasulka recounted the episode in 'American Cosmic' (Oxford University Press, 2019). The site was never disclosed or verified: the case is valuable as an ethnography of the crash-retrieval culture, not as a confirmed trace.
