United States.Colorado Springs · a couple sees a nearly transparent triangle

The witness and his wife were sitting with their backs to the house, on the back porch of their residence in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on a night in October 2023, around 10:50 p.m. The porch faces southwest; the sky was clear, though the witness did not remember seeing many stars. As he looked up, he noticed something had flown over the house from behind, coming from the northeast and moving away to the southwest. He perceived the motion first and made out the silhouette only afterward; he said he did not think he would have noticed it on a cloudy night. The object appeared to fly low, possibly as low as 300 feet (about 90 meters). Based on that estimated altitude, the witness judged it roughly the size of a large SUV; at arm's length, it occupied the space between his thumb and index finger, about 5 inches.

What stood out most was its appearance: nearly see-through, with a haze or distortion around it, as if he were looking at it through mist, and with ripples like those of an object seen underwater. It looked like a perfect triangle, though from his angle he could not tell whether it was isosceles or equilateral. It could have been dark gray or silver, a color that blended into the night sky, and the distortion around it may have given it that translucent look. The edges and corners seemed rounded to him, though the distortion may also have softened them. It moved away with a point facing forward and, along its flat trailing edge, carried a band of silvery-blue light that the witness guessed might be tied to its propulsion.

It moved in a straight line at a constant altitude, covering a large distance in very little time. Just before he lost sight of it, the left side of the triangle banked quickly to a near-vertical orientation, without changing course or altitude. It was completely silent: the witness felt no vibration, static, or any other effect as it passed over him. He lived near an airport and often saw private planes and helicopters fly over his house; he said he knew well how a normal aircraft looks and sounds and was familiar with all USAF aircraft, including the newest unmanned drones, and that the object matched nothing he had seen before: it was only a triangle, with no wings, fins, or bubble for an engine housing. The entire observation lasted about four seconds, from when he first saw it to when it vanished to the southwest, sooner than he expected, with no time to pull out his phone and record it. His wife, who also saw the object, recalled a dark seam running around its edge. Both went inside immediately, into separate rooms; what they did there is redacted in the document.

The FBI took the witness's statement in January 2026, more than two years after the event, and summarized it in an FD-302, the form its agents use to record an interview. The witness's name and the exact date of the event are redacted.

Everything known about the event comes from one interview. The FD-302 states that it contains neither recommendations nor conclusions of the FBI. It records mainly the husband's account; of the wife, who also saw the object, it notes a single detail, the dark seam along the edge.

The observation lasted about four seconds and left no photo or video; the published document includes no instrumental record. The altitude (about 300 feet) and the size (a large SUV) are the witness's estimates, and he derived the size from the altitude. The witness himself said the color and the distortion may have given the translucent look and softened the edges.
