Between March 1983 and April 1986, approximately 5,000 people in the Hudson Valley (New York and Connecticut) reported observations of a large, silent triangular or boomerang-shaped object with structured lights — known as the 'Westchester Boomerang'. Reports consistently described: silhouette up to 300 feet across, low-altitude flight (~500 feet), brilliant lights in geometric pattern, and complete aerodynamic silence.
Witnesses included engineers from IBM East Fishkill (one of the country's most sensitive technological centers at the time), New York State Police officers (including patrolman Frank Buckley who filmed the object), FAA air traffic controllers who logged correlated radar returns, and medical/professional personnel. The Stewart International Airport Center (FAA) confirmed multiple sightings in correlated periods.
Astrophysicists J. Allen Hynek (CUFOS) and Philip Imbrogno conducted a four-year field investigation documented in 'Night Siege: The Hudson Valley UFO Sightings' (1987).
