On May 20, 1967, industrial mechanic Stefan Michalak was prospecting for quartz near Falcon Lake (Manitoba, Canada). At 12:15 PM he observed two bright red disc-shaped objects descending; one settled on a nearby rock formation. Michalak approached, heard voices (unintelligible), and inspected the object's outer panel.
After roughly 30 minutes, Michalak tried to touch the surface with a glove; the glove melted instantly. The object rotated, exposing a grille on the hull that vented hot gas toward Michalak, incinerating his shirt and geometrically burning the skin of his torso in a grid pattern consistent with the grille observed.
Michalak walked to a Winnipeg hospital. The burns were documented photographically. He experienced weight loss, sustained fatigue, hives, and nausea for months. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Royal Canadian Air Force investigated officially; the site showed a charred circle of quartz and moss. Soil samples later analyzed at the University of Colorado showed elevated radioactivity above background. The case remained open with no official explanation; Canada's Department of National Defence released the full file through Library and Archives Canada in the 1980s.
