Pattern 8r
Unauthorized Disclosure Channels
Leaks of authentic institutional documents outside state control. WikiLeaks Cablegate + Podesta + Wilson-Davis.
Cases exhibiting this pattern (14)
WikiLeaks Podesta Cache· 2016
In October 2016, John Podesta's leaked emails revealed substantive UAP exchanges with Tom DeLonge, astronaut Edgar Mitchell and other disclosure-world figures. Beyond the content, the cryptographically authentic leak documents an operational pre-disclosure network that preceded the public events of 2017–2026 by years.
Gen. McCasland disappearance· 2026
In late May 2026, retired USAF Major General Donald McCasland —former director of the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson, the base historically associated with custody of UAP material— was reported missing in Ohio. His name appears in the 2016 leaked Podesta emails, and the disappearance coincided with the acceleration of AARO's releases.
Yemen — Orb / Hellfire Missile Strike (MQ-9, 2024)· 2024
Two U.S. MQ-9 Reapers track and engage an unidentified orb with an AGM-114 Hellfire missile in an active combat zone (anti-Houthi operations). The missile deflects without detonating. Military video disclosed at a congressional hearing by a whistleblower (Sep 2025). First public disclosure of an armed engagement against a UAP.
Chinese surveillance balloon · Montana → South Carolina· 2023
Between January 28 and February 4, 2023, a high-altitude Chinese-origin balloon overflew the continental United States from Alaska, passing over nuclear installations in Montana (Malmstrom Air Force Base, Minuteman III silos), descending southeast until shot down on February 4 by an AIM-9X Sidewinder missile launched by an F-22 Raptor at 60,000 feet over the Atlantic coast of South Carolina. The Biden administration and DoD officially confirmed it was an intelligence platform (SIGINT/PHOTINT). Partial recovery of mechanical, electronic and payload parts was executed by the U.S. Navy (USS Carter Hall, USS Oscar Austin) and the FBI for analysis. It is the corpus's first case of officially confirmed adversary technology operating over the continental United States in the post-2017 UAP cycle, and opens the adversary-technology narrative with the strongest possible evidential basis.
PURSUE · Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters· 2026
PURSUE (Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters) is the executive directive signed by the Trump administration in May 2026 ordering the newly renamed Department of War (formerly DoD) to execute an 'expeditious' interagency release of unresolved UAP records. The war.gov/ufo/ portal opened on May 8, 2026 and published in successive tranches: Release 1 (May 8), Release 2 (May 22), Release 3 (June 12), Release 4 (July 10) and Release 5 (August 7). By mid-June the portal had surpassed 1.7 billion accesses. The AARO assessment accompanying the third release (signed by its director Jon Kosloski, June 5) emphasizes 'plasma-like' orbs —including an orange 'mother orb' releasing smaller red orbs— and concedes that ~40% of cases remain unexplained. The fourth release (July 10, 2026) contributed 40 additional files (14 documents, 19 videos, 4 audio recordings, 3 images), including infrared video of a six-pointed object over the Yellow Sea captured by U.S. Indo-Pacific Command in 2025, testimony from a military aviator with 28 years of service about a rectangular object with 'flight characteristics unlike anything I had seen' (Eastern US, 2019), documentation of an intrusion over the Pantex nuclear plant (Texas, September 2015), and a transcript of a Los Alamos conference (1949) where physicists attempted to explain the 'green fireballs' over the nuclear laboratory. It is the first U.S. federal UAP-release infrastructure with a direct presidential mandate and a stable public URL. The content remains more procedural than probative —orb videos, historical audio and declassified documents, without the conclusive piece that would settle the material question— but it is no longer an empty channel.
Turner Report · JIO Australia (1971)· 1971
Analytical memorandum on the 'UFO Problem' written by Harry Turner —senior government scientist and head of the Nuclear Branch at Australia's Joint Intelligence Organisation (JIO), the national equivalent of the U.S. DIA— delivered on May 25, 1971 to his director R.W. Furlonger. The document, now declassified and available at the National Archives of Australia (A13693), argues with unusual candor that UAPs are a genuine phenomenon and describes in detail U.S. government involvement, the role of the CIA and the Robertson panel in public debunking, U.S. anti-gravity research and the key names in American theoretical physics involved. It is one of the most substantive 5-Eyes allied UAP assessments of the 20th century, and David Grusch explicitly cited it at the June 9, 2026 Capitol press conference as documentary evidence of historical cover-up — recommending pages 7 through 16.
Burlison investigation · FFRDC contractors (MITRE, MIT Lincoln Lab)· 2026
Congressman Eric Burlison (R-MO), member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and of the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, opened in May 2026 a formal congressional investigation against FFRDC contractors (Federally Funded Research and Development Centers). On May 22, 2026 he sent MITRE Corporation legislative interrogatories and production requests demanding UAP records since 1930 — including custody, control, analysis, transfer, destruction or withholding of recovered materials, technologies of unknown origin, and legacy crash-retrieval and reverse-engineering programs. Days earlier he had sent an analogous letter to MIT Lincoln Laboratory specifically about the 1952 Beacon Hill Study and the reel-to-reel 'AF-ATIC-FILM, 03/52'. MITRE publicly confirmed it will comply. The explicit next trail covers RAND Corporation, Aerospace Corporation and Northrop Grumman. The enabling legal framework is the UAP Records Collection established by the FY 2024 NDAA and the creation of NARA Record Group 615.
UAP Disclosure Act 2025 (S.Amdt.3111)· 2023–26
Senate amendment S.Amdt.3111 to NDAA S.2296 (FY 2026), reintroduced in 2025 as continuation of the UAP Disclosure Act that Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had first introduced in 2023. Co-introduced by Senators Mike Rounds (R-SD) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), co-sponsored by Marco Rubio (R-FL), Todd Young (R-IN) and Martin Heinrich (D-NM). Modeled on the 1992 JFK Assassination Records Collection Act: establishes a 9-citizen presidentially appointed Records Review Board with mandate to identify, review and declassify UAP records in federal custody. Status as of June 2026: two key provisions were removed in legislative negotiation ('gutted'), including the eminent-domain language over UAP material in private hands. One of the three formal demands from the June 9, 2026 Capitol press conference [[capitol-press-conference-2026]] is passage of the full Act.
Immaculate Constellation · alleged UAP-archive uSAP· 2024
In October-November 2024, journalist Michael Shellenberger presented to Congress a 12-page document describing 'Immaculate Constellation', an alleged unacknowledged Special Access Program (uSAP) to collect and hold high-resolution UAP imagery. In 2025 analyst Matthew Brown identified himself as its author, but a later critical analysis (Jason Colavito, the Metabunk forum) argues Brown misread a fictional planning document from the 2018 Schriever space wargame as a real program — today's best-supported mundane explanation.
'Jellyfish' Video · Iraq· 2018
In 2018, an infrared sensor at a joint military base in Iraq captured a 'jellyfish'-shaped object that overflew the installation, descended over water and, according to journalist Jeremy Corbell who leaked the video in January 2024, submerged before re-emerging and departing. The Pentagon neither confirmed nor denied the footage's authenticity.
Bob Lazar · S-4 / Area 51· 1989
In 1989, Bob Lazar told journalist George Knapp —initially with his face hidden— that he had worked at S-4, a facility near Groom Lake (Area 51), where he said he saw nine intact flying saucers of extraterrestrial origin and was hired to reverse-engineer their propulsion, powered by 'element 115'. His academic and employment credentials could never be verified.
Cabinet RS/33 · Magenta· 1933
According to documents circulated since 2000 by Italian ufologists Roberto Pinotti and Alfredo Lissoni, on 13 June 1933 an unconventional craft allegedly crashed in northern Italy, and Mussolini supposedly created a secret cabinet, 'RS/33', under Guglielmo Marconi, to study it, storing the remains in SIAI Marchetti hangars at Vergiate. It would be the 'first Roswell', 14 years earlier. Without verifiable archival originals.
Carp / Guardian · Ontario· 1991
From 1991, ufologist Bob Oechsler received anonymous parcels signed 'Guardian' with photos, forged government documents and a VHS video showing a large UFO landing amid flames near Carp (Ontario). A neighbour, Diane Labenek, had seen lights that night. After years of controversy, MUFON Ontario concluded in 1995 that the case was almost certainly a hoax.
'Glowing Auras and Black Money' · The NYT reveals AATIP· 2017
On 16 December 2017, The New York Times ran on its front page 'Glowing Auras and "Black Money": The Pentagon's Mysterious U.F.O. Program' (bylined Helene Cooper, Ralph Blumenthal and Leslie Kean), revealing the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP): a Department of Defense program funded with ~US$22 million between 2007 and 2012, pushed by Senator Harry Reid, with contracts to Bigelow Aerospace. The same day, To The Stars Academy released two Navy videos (FLIR1/Nimitz and Gimbal) and Luis Elizondo surfaced as the former official who claimed to have run it. It was the event that made UAP mainstream and chained into the UAPTF (2020) and the ODNI report (2021).
